Join baseball historian John Rossi and Moviehouse Productions host “Radio” Rick Spector for “Remembering Johnny Callison”.
When one had “choose up” baseball games in Philly during the early 1960’s, nearly every kid wanted to be “Johnny”. Callison could run, field, hit, had a rifle arm, and for a medium size man he had great power. He looked like a movie star. Callison almost led us to a World Series in 1964. For too few shining years, Johnny Callison was clearly the major sports idol of our city.
Little known fact but I believe I witnessed Johnny Callison hit an inside the park home run at Yankee Stadium – I was with my father – (1973-4?) Johnny hit the ball behind the monuments which were on the field in center field. My Dad was grabbing me as Johnny ran the bases saying “you’ll never see this in your lifetime”! The ball bounced around and Johnny ran all the way home for the home run. I can still see it today! Just thought you should know a little known fact about him 🙂
Great job with the video!

Ok, so I really thought about it AND although Johnny Callison did hit an inside the park homerun as a Philly, it was Johnny Ellis that hit the inside the park homerun in Yankee stadium I think, upon reflection, and a google search! Sorry about that and yes, I enjoyed the video very much! Thanks for remembering these great sports figures… “gone but not forgotten” thanks to you!
